Update!

I know I haven't blogged in a while, but I actually don't spend much time in front of my computer when I'm not at uni.. I never thought of that. While at uni, although meant to be doing uni work, I'd spend a good part of the day infront of my computer, and now, well, I hardly spend any time on it. Which is a good thing I suppose! So what's been happening with me..

Uni results come through, and I passed everything, boo-yeah! The graduation ceremony is next week.. Holy crap it's next week and I haven't even figured out an outfit.. oops. I'll get there, something black and simple I'm thinking since we have to wear the robe for most of the time.

I've been looking for jobs but at the moment there's just really not all that much out there unfortunately.. For the next 6 weeks at my current job I'll be doing full time hours which is going to give me some play money, I'll keep trolling seek every day though and just crossing my fingers something comes up!

If you remember a couple posts back I posted about the Sally Hansen salon effect nail strips? Well.. I went to Priceline last week I got a product which is basically the same (I didn't keep the packaging sorry) but it's the 'Glamnail' nail strips. They apply exactly the same etc. etc. I actually think I like them better! The photo is of them on my nails after a week!

I think they've lasted a LOT better than the Sally Hansen ones (Mind the bad photo)

Not only do they have better lasting power, they are also much MUCH cheaper.. They were (on sale) for $3.95!! But the normal price was $4.95.. which is still extremely cheap! I think I'm going to buy them out!

A project that I'm working on at the moment is cleaning all my crap out! I have SO MUCH stuff, too much stuff, it's just everywhere, takes up so much room and just ugh! So I've decided instead of chucking out all my stuff, or worrying about selling it (which in reality no one would buy it anyway) I'm going to give some stuff away! I'm making up a few care packages to give to some of my closest friends (you know who you are). The photo includes just some of the stuff going their way!

Glittery nails!

How pretty are these nailsssss!? (Don't mind my hands they look all dry and gross).
They're the Sally Hansen salon effect nail strip things. I've had them before, from a different brand, with just a block colour but these are awesome! Me and my work bestie are sporting them this week :)

The packaging

This is what you get in the box

You basically stick these things on your nails and then file them off! The ones I had last time lasted about 10 days. I've had mine on for 4 days they're still pretty good, some of them have chipping at the end, but still quite good! I've seen these at Priceline, Target, Kmart etc. etc. anywhere that sells Sally Hansen and retails for around $14.95. Go try them out!

Interview

So you guys probably already know since I've told you (mostly in person) about my exciting news! I'm one of the four finalists for RMIT School of Fashion & Textiles 'Undergraduate of the Year'! Pretty cool stuff. I found out a couple weeks ago on the down low but didn't want to say anything until I was 100% sure. Today I had to go in for an interview with an independent panel of 3, who determine who is actually receives the award. I think the interview went well, I only didn't feel confident when they were asking me about what I had done to get in contact with people in the industry etc, eep. Anyway, I'll let you know how it all goes on the night (next Tuesday 22/11).

Amazing

This seriously just made me smile :)

xxx

We are in a good place.

I was really apprehensive about that meeting.
I spent the whole week worrying about it,
and preparing what I would say to you.
In the beginning I was successful, gave
you the cold shoulder, that I believed you
deserve. After time, with help, I realised
it was stupid. You're not a bad person, and I
truly believe we can be friends. I think we
are in an amazing place I never thought we'd
get to. I'm glad it happened, it makes me smile.
We have come to agreement, and it works for
both us. I truly wish you all the best in life.
You are an amazing person, and I'm glad we
we had the time together that we did.

Love,
Dawn

Helvetica

Okay, If you don't already know, I am a massive nerd. Whether it be about.. technology or anything, I always seem to get involved. I'm going to start posting things I get nerdy about.. haha.
First up, fonts/ typefaces. I will judge you accordingly depending on what typeface you choose.
I saw this site and laughed so freaking much:

http://comicsanscriminal.com/

I. Hate. Comic Sans.
This is literally the worst font possibly imaginable and just.. look, you won't get your message across successfully.

Last night I watched a documentary about 'Helvetica', I'm sure you're all aware of this font. It is literally everywhere.

Seriously, I was nerding over this so hard. I really really enjoyed it. I was a history of the font, where it originated etc. etc. But if you're in to that kind of stuff.. look in to it, it was good :)

My current favourite font at the moment too is:

Isn't it just sexy? It's such a classy typeface.

Anyway, enough nerding about typefaces.. Although you will hear about them again, I've ordered a book about them.. the history of all the basic ones etc. Haha you will be getting a book review :)

Exciting Times

So of course I'm blogging instead of doing what I should be doing which is finishing off my research report for my major project, and studying for an exam I have tomorrow. After hours of doing the same thing over and over again, your brain just stops working, and that is where I am at the moment. This time next week, it will be all over. I will have finished all my university assessments, for life. Granted, there is a slight chance that I will fail a subject but let's not think about that right now.

We are in November, how crazy is that? A lot of exciting things are coming up within the next month or so! I have K's engagement party this weekend (how exciting, congratulations xx), this time next week I'll be a free woman, I have a graduate exhibition (which I'll tell you the news when it's official) and officially graduating on the 14th of December (you know the drill, the graduation ceremony at Etihad, blah blah).

As soon as I finish I'm going to be scouring the job sites and applying for everything I can! I've applied for 3 jobs so far, one of which I received a generic rejection letter, and the latter the closing dates have just passed so we'll wait and see, you guys will be the first to know!

Anyway, that's a little update. I suppose I should go back to this:

Softies for Mirabel

So I don't know if you've heard of the Mirabel foundation, I'm sure you have!
Anyway, there's this ting called 'Softies for Mirabel', where crafty types make soft toys which end up getting donated to the kids! How cool is that idea?

This year will be 5th year its been running and I just think it's amazing! As soon as all my uni stuff is over I will definitely be making a softie/ softies to donate!

Softies can be sent to:

Meet Me at Mike's
63 Brunswick Street
Fitzroy Victoria 3065
Australia

But I'll be definitely be going in person to drop my little guys off! If anyone wants to make one (or more!) and needs ideas get in touch with me because I've got a heap of patterns lying around and spare fabric scraps we can share!

Busy.

Sorry I haven't been updating much recently. Been a busy week!
This is what I have had to look at:

In case you can't tell.. it's knitted fabric (magnified.. like 20 times I think?)
It's for my major project at uni. I had to select a benchmark garment, choose tests that were relevant to my topic, test accordingly then recreate experimental samples with slight differences, test them all and compare and conclude which fabric is best suited for the end use.
I've taken like 100 of these images of all my different samples, and then I have to use this stupid program which is PC only so I can't download it on my MAC, which is killing me.. anywhere it's very tedious and.. well.. yes that's what I've been doing.

Potter fever!

This is a few weeks old now and you've probably already seen them, but the week HP 7.2 came out I had this on my nails! :)

My feet.

Feet. What a strange first entry right? Well, last week I saw a podiatrist, finally. The reason I went to a podiatrist is because I have really, really flat feet. It's always been an issue, but even more so now that I've been going to the gym a lot. Well, it's more when I do Zumba. Here's why:

So this is problem I have with my feet, they have excessive pronation (? about the wording of that). Which basically means when I walk my feet roll inwards causing pretty much my whole leg to twist and causing a lot of strain in my calves - which is where I feel the pain first. When I run I'm up on my toes a lot more and therefore my feet hit the ground in more of the normal foot position. When doing exercises such as Zumba or walking my whole foot comes in constant contact with the ground and therefore causes the pain and strain. My podiatrist taped my feet (really tightly, mind you) to hold them in a 'normal' foot position and told me to go to the gym and see how it felt. Woah, it was amazing! It made the world of difference to me and I had like half the pain I usually would. So anyway, I saw him again and reported back and the verdict being exactly what I had expected: I need to get orthodics. They're quite expensive and we don't have private health to cover podiatry, so I'm going to speak to my parents about costs etc. etc. I mean it's definitely worth it! I'll keep you updated :)
