My feet.

Feet. What a strange first entry right? Well, last week I saw a podiatrist, finally. The reason I went to a podiatrist is because I have really, really flat feet. It's always been an issue, but even more so now that I've been going to the gym a lot. Well, it's more when I do Zumba. Here's why:

So this is problem I have with my feet, they have excessive pronation (? about the wording of that). Which basically means when I walk my feet roll inwards causing pretty much my whole leg to twist and causing a lot of strain in my calves - which is where I feel the pain first. When I run I'm up on my toes a lot more and therefore my feet hit the ground in more of the normal foot position. When doing exercises such as Zumba or walking my whole foot comes in constant contact with the ground and therefore causes the pain and strain. My podiatrist taped my feet (really tightly, mind you) to hold them in a 'normal' foot position and told me to go to the gym and see how it felt. Woah, it was amazing! It made the world of difference to me and I had like half the pain I usually would. So anyway, I saw him again and reported back and the verdict being exactly what I had expected: I need to get orthodics. They're quite expensive and we don't have private health to cover podiatry, so I'm going to speak to my parents about costs etc. etc. I mean it's definitely worth it! I'll keep you updated :)

  1. Oh good luck! I'm glad there's something that can be done to help fix them, you've still got a whole life left of walking to do! :p
